The Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce November Power in Partnership breakfast will feature the annual “Salute to Education” on Thursday, November 7.  The featured speaker is Princeton, KY native Rebecca Wingfield, a NASA flight director at Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX.   The doors open at 6:45 a.m. for viewing of the school displays and the breakfast program begins at 7:30 a.m. The event is held at the Julian Carroll Convention Center and Baptist Health Paducah is the November sponsor.

Wingfield currently oversees the planning, training and execution of human spaceflight missions with NASA. She was selected as a Flight Director in 2018 and is the 92nd Flight Director in the history of American human spaceflight. She is a 2002 graduate of Caldwell County High School, a 2007 graduate of the University of Kentucky with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a 2015 graduate of the University of Houston-Clear Lake with a master’s degree in systems engineering.  She is returning to the area to speak at the Salute to Education breakfast and the STEM 4 Girls event to be held later in the day on November 7 at West Kentucky Community and Technical College.

Wingfield began her career at NASA as a Flight Controller for the International Space Station as an Operations Support Officer responsible for all mechanisms and maintenance performed aboard the space craft.  She’s also held positions in the Capsule Communicator (CapCom) role and as a Chief Training Officer.  As a CapCom, Wingfield was the primary point of voice contact to space and answered as “Houston” when the astronauts called.
