September PIP to feature KY Chamber Workforce Center and Workforce Development

Published Monday, August 27, 2018 4:00 pm

Workforce development is the topic for the September Paducah Chamber Power in Partnership breakfast with Kim Menke, Chair of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Workforce Center Advisory Board, as the featured speaker. The breakfast will be held on Thursday, September 6 at 7:30 a.m. at the Julian Carroll Convention Center.  KeeFORCE is the sponsor.

Menke serves as Chairman of the 12-member advisory Board that represents the state’s employment sectors and all geographic regions.  Menke is with Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc. in Georgetown as the Regional Director of the Government Affairs Office.  He manages and supports the company relationships with local, state and federal officials where they have manufacturing operations in Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee and West Virginia.  Areas of specific focus include the workforce development programs, economic development efforts and legislative/regulatory efforts on the local, state and federal level.

The Kentucky Chamber Workforce Center was launched in January 2017 and established from efforts that grew out of the Chamber’s initial report on the state’s workforce challenges.  As Kentucky’s employers struggle to find employees with the skills they need, the Workforce Center is leading initiatives to solve the state’s workforce crisis.  As a program of the Workforce Center, Talent Pipeline Management (TPM Academies) are being established throughout the state. This effort is through a grant that the states of Kentucky, Tennessee and Michigan received from the U.S. Chamber Foundation and W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

Over the next two years, the Workforce Center will develop strategies to improve Kentucky’s workforce issues. Participating employers, employer-led associations and education providers will receive training and will build partnerships while using a demand-driven concept in order to connect employees and employers. Also, the Workforce Center will identify workforce champions in communities across Kentucky to serve as TPM project managers and TPM class participants.
